If you want to slay like Beyoncé, (and I mean, who doesn’t), then you’ll want to put into practice one of her greatest manifesting secrets - the trick that allows her to overcome her fears, act boldly, and exude a tremendous amount of confidence.

Here’s what Beyoncé did to become the fearless, take-charge woman we all know and love today: She created an alter ego, and she calls her Sasha Fierce.

Beyoncé  released a press statement in October, 2008, in which she declared, “I have someone else that takes over when it’s time for me to work and when I’m on stage, this alter ego that I’ve created that kind of protects me and who I really am."

The phrase alter ego means a second self. Its roots are Latin, and it translates into other self or other I.

So, why is it such a powerful manifesting tool to create a second self, or an alter ego?

Here’s the key: There are different versions of you. There’s the young, timid you, who is afraid to speak up, the negative, or lazy you, who could complain, or sit around and watch television all day. There’s the you who doesn’t give a fuck. There’s the you who knows better, but for some reason, procrastinates. There’s the you who’s daring, excited about life, and eager for challenges. There’s the you who follows her dreams, is fearless, and makes shit happen. Instead of operating out of a singular version of yourself - the you who wants a better life, but finds it difficult to manifest that life, choose to embody a new energy.

Manifesting is like a game. All that’s required is a shift in energy, and creating an alter ego can help you to win.

Figure out the best version of yourself. This might be the “you” who you see yourself becoming five or ten years from now. This might be the “you” who’s released negative patterns and worked through traumas. This might be the you who’s confident, who can fearlessly talk to people and who goes for what she wants. This might be the you who’s not intimidated when entering a meeting, or who struts into a restaurant for a first date in a sleek red dress and badass heels.

Beyoncé stated the following in an interview with Marie Claire in 2008, “I have out-of-body experiences [on stage]. If I cut my leg, if I fall I don’t even feel it. I’m so fearless, I’m not aware of my face or my body.”

While Beyoncé’s ego, or personality, might not feel comfortable shaking it on stage in a gold sequined bodysuit, her alter ego, Sasha Fierce, does. By creating an alter ego, Beyoncé freed herself of the limitations fear. She freed herself of insecurity, doubt, or the thought most of us would have if we had to perform in front of thousands, or millions of people, which is: Oh shit. How can I do this?

Here’s the key: If you have more than one “I,” the you you believe yourself to be doesn’t have to do anything. Create another personality construct to help you step out of your comfort zone and take actions you normally wouldn’t take.

How Do I Create an Alter Ego Like Sasha Fierce?

The first step to creating an alter ego is to give her a fun name. Her name should represent the qualities you wish to embody. Then, take out a journal and do some mind-mapping. Here are some questions to consider as you create an image of the highest version of yourself:

  • How do other people perceive her? (What’s her reputation?)

  • What qualities does she possess?

  • What’s her physical appearance? (What does she wear? How does she walk? Is she slumped over in jogging pants, or is she standing erect in a pants suit?)

  • What does her physical space look like?

  • What are her hobbies? What does she spend her time doing?

  • What sort of things does she think about?

  • What’s her spiritual/mindfulness practice?

Think about it this way: You are creating a character. As you awaken, you come to recognize that your ego is nothing other than a personality construct. The fact that you identify as Shelly, 29-year-old secretary who loves vegetarian food, country music, and shabby chic decor is just as arbitrary and the idea that you could be Shelly, 29-year-old CEO who eats barbecue, boxes on the weekend, and is saving to purchase a modern penthouse.

You can be whoever you want. You’re not tethered to staying shy, at a certain income bracket, or living in a particular place.

You only have one life! Decide who the best version of yourself is. Design her the way you would a character. Keep this in mind: You don’t have to feel confident to recognize that there’s a future part of yourself who is confident. You don’t have to feel successful to become aware of the fact that, deep down, there’s a part of you who can totally start that business, go for that career, or get that degree. It’s a version of yourself. Tap into it. You may not be that person now, but the more you design her, envision her, and make decisions from her perspective, the more you will become her.

Manifesting is not about picturing a car in your mind and having it materialize from outer space. It’s about becoming the sort of person who could easily afford that car; it’s about vibrating at an abundant energy, which means becoming the sort of person who is confident, bold, and sure enough to drive such an expensive, even flashy car.

Beyoncé, created Sasha Fierce because she was self-aware enough to recognize that she didn’t have the courage and boldness to cut loose on stage. She knew she wasn’t confident enough to dance as freely as would be required put on a spectacular show. But Sasha Fierce could. Sasha Fierce was bolder. She didn’t care what others thought of her.

Beyoncé created Sasha Fierce, and eventually, she became Sasha Fierce. And you can do the same.

So, what alter-ego are you going to create? What does the highest version of yourself look like? Design her, and the slowly, begin to think like she would. Ask yourself what would name-of-alter-ego-do? Start to dress like her. When you feel like you’re being pushed out of your comfort zone and you’re afraid, ask yourself how she would respond in the situation, or, what she would feel at the moment? Secure? Outspoken? Fearless?

The more clarity you have about the highest version of yourself, the better you will become at manifesting your dreams. As you evolve, release negative patterns, and think thoughts that are in alignment with your Spirit, you will naturally manifest a life that you love. So, create an alter-ego like Beyonce, because if you’re stuck believing that you have one personality (and that personality procrastinates, self-sabotages, or is insecure), you’ll never manifest your dreams. See another version of yourself. See her and step into her energy more and more; eventually, you’ll wake up one day, and not only will you be her, you’ll also have her life.
